Dr. Evans Akpo leads the Doctorate in Strategic Leadership (DSL) Program and serves as the Associate Dean and Associate Professor in the School of Humanities and Leadership at Wayland Baptist University, Plainview, Texas.  He previously served as the Dean of Graduate, Professional, and Online Programs at Warner Pacific University in Portland, Oregon. His extensive academic journey includes previous roles such as the President of the Latinx Success Institute in Palmview, Texas, and a dedicated half-decade period as a full-time lecturer at South Texas College in McAllen, Texas. Before this, he contributed his expertise as a lecturer at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, California. In addition to teaching, he is currently an education consultant to Institutions and organizations.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Akpo has held various esteemed positions, demonstrating his commitment to education. He has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, California, and as a Government Instructor at Lone Star College in Houston, Texas, as well as Houston Community College. Additionally, his educational journey has taken him to international settings, where he worked as a faculty member at Webster University in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Dr. Akpo’s dedication to pursuing knowledge and a well-rounded education is evident through his academic pursuits, including studies at Regent’s University in London, Hult International Business School in London, and American River College in California.

As a scholarly author, Dr. Akpo has penned the book “Are the Students Learning?” and has made notable presentations at conferences such as the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and the Society of Philosophy and History of Education (SOPHE). Furthermore, his contributions extend to numerous articles published in prestigious journals and newsletters.

In his role as a Graduate Writing Coach, Dr. Akpo recognized a recurring pattern of writing errors among students, particularly within the field of International Relations. Fueled by his observations and commitment to student success, he took proactive steps to address this issue. His journey, which began with seeking assistance from the Academic Resource Center as a student, eventually led to him becoming a Graduate Writing Coach. Through this role, he imparts valuable writing skills and guidance to students from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines. Dr. Akpo’s approach seamlessly integrates his faith with education, emphasizing the importance of values in academic pursuits.

Dr. Akpo earned his doctorate in Executive Educational Leadership from Houston Christian University in Texas, focusing on factors influencing student success, specifically in the realms of learning and commitment, using Tinto’s Persistence Theory as a framework. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, showcasing his commitment to lifelong learning and academic excellence.
